The start of a new year is often the time for a makeover or refresh, whether that’s our diets, routines or homes. As we enter not just a new year, but a new decade, you might be thinking about making a more drastic change, and changing up your home’s interior design is one place to start. While most people will have a pretty good sense of their personal style and likes and dislikes, sometimes we all need a little inspiration to get started. With this in mind, if you’re thinking about switching up your home decor for 2020, see below for just four of the next big trends.

Traditional prints – They might not be to everyone’s taste, but chintzy, traditional prints are making a big return in 2020. Chintz patterns incorporate floral motifs against a pale background and popular designs use classic flowers such as roses or hollyhocks. The style originates all the way back to the 1600s, where it began life as glazed calico printed or painted with large florals.

Sustainably sourced – The focus on sustainability continues to grow year on year and it now extends to how we decorate our homes too. Less of a trend and more of a conscious lifestyle choice, look out for products made from recycled materials, second-hand furniture, or items made from local, sustainably sourced timber.

Animal prints – Maximalists will be happy to hear that animal prints are very fashionable this year, from tiger prints to zebra or leopard. If you’re more wary, start small with accents on cushions or other small accessories, then build up to larger pieces like rugs or throws.

Statement ceilings – The focus moves away from walls and floors to the ceiling this year, with bold, statement ceilings offering a unique way to make an impact. If you were already thinking about giving your ceiling a fresh coat of paint, why not branch out with a bold block-colour which complements the walls.
